Commonwealth was one of the original bets on East Fremont, open since 2012, back when the blocks east of Las Vegas Boulevard were more promise than destination. It has anchored the Downtown bar crawl ever since: a swanky two-story cocktail bar with crystal chandeliers, a long bar on each floor, and a rooftop upstairs where a dance floor looks straight out over the Fremont neon. Tucked inside is The Laundry Room, a speakeasy with only a handful of seats and a craft cocktail list that has earned attention well beyond Vegas.
The happy hour situation needs an honest caveat. Older listings, ours included for a while, describe a weekday afternoon deal with cheap cocktails and taco prices from the mid 2010s. The bar's current posted hours make that math impossible: doors open Thursday at 9 pm, Friday and Saturday at 10, and the night runs until 4 am. What shows up now is a weekend version, with event calendars promoting specially priced cocktails early on Saturday nights. Nothing on the venue's own menu page lists prices, so call or check their socials before you build plans around a discount.
Who is it for? Cocktail drinkers who want Downtown energy without the canopy crush of the Fremont Street Experience, birthday groups claiming a booth, and anyone who treats a night out as a progression: a proper drink downstairs first, then dancing on the roof at 1 am. DJs run most nights it is open, so expect volume. The Laundry Room is the opposite play, hushed and slow, and its limited seating means you should sort out entry ahead of time rather than hoping to walk in.
A few practical notes. Thursday through Saturday only, so a Tuesday visit finds a locked door. The rooftop line builds after midnight on weekends, and the crowd skews dressed up by Downtown standards, more date night than dive crawl. The address is 525 Fremont, far enough east of the casinos that you get the neon view without the tourist density, with Atomic Liquors and the rest of the corridor within easy walking distance.
